The two tablestones commemorating the Pentland Martyrs are located adjoining the Covenanters' Monument in the churchyard. They were repaired in March 1873.

William Welsh
Grierson and Welsh (of Carsphairn) were active in the Pentland Rising and were captured at the Battle of Rullion Green. They were sent to Dumfries for trial, and subsequently executed in the town on 2 January 1667. Their heads and hands were subsequently cut from their bodies and displayed for some time on the top of the burgh's Bridgeport.
