Garrisons and Prisons

 

During the time of the Covenanting struggle, the government commandeered a number of castles and country houses from Covenant-supporting landowners and billeted soldiers there. These men were used to track down Covenanters in the surrounding areas.

Many Covenanters were held in jail in a variety of locations. There follows a list of jails used as such.
