William Adam

William Adam was in the fields near to his workplace - Upper Wellwood farm - when he was spoken to by soldiers. He had a Bible with him, and his responses to their questioning were deemed unsuitable, and he was accordingly shot on the spot. This was done by the order of Captain Sir John Dalzell. His girlfriend, whom he had been planning to meet, heard the shot and later found his body. The martyrdom took place in March 1685.
